A native of Manning, South Carolina, Martegus graduated from James F. Byrnes High School before dedicating a decade to distinguished service in the United States Air Force. Over ten years of active-duty military service, he developed the leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence that now define his legal practice. His military background instilled in him a deep sense of accountability, integrity, and steadfast dedication to those he serves.

After completing his military service, Martegus earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security from Troy University, graduating with honors. He began his legal career as a law clerk with the firm, gaining hands-on experience in personal injury and client advocacy. He later earned his Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law in May 2024, where he was an active member of the Black Law Students Association and demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and community engagement.

Martegus’s dedication to the law is deeply rooted in his family’s historic legacy. He is a descendant of the Briggs family whose courage helped shape Briggs v. Elliott, a pivotal case that became part of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. Carrying forward a legacy of perseverance and constitutional change, Martegus draws inspiration from those who helped transform the nation’s civil rights landscape. He remains steadfast in his commitment to advancing justice and expanding equitable access to the legal system for all.

Outside of practicing law, Martegus enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, playing flag football, and traveling.
